Elements to writing a Shakespearean Tragedy

  1. Tragic hero - virtuous character who must face adversity, either caused by flawed persona or sealed by fate. Ultimately, it is with their life they pay.
  2. Good against evil
  3. Hamartia – the protagonist carries a flaw that leaves them vulnerable and eventually leads to disastrous events. Indecisiveness and overthinking often lead to overreactions.
  4. Tragic Waste – the disturbing demise of good characters along with evil
  5. Conflict – Hero faces external conflict from antagonists and internal conflict in their own mind
  6. The Supernatural – Superstitious beliefs, ghosts, and magic
  7. Catharsis – the ability to immerse the audience on an emotional roller coaster with mixed feelings for the hero and their antagonists
  8. Lack of Poetic Justice – In the real world, good deeds do not always reap rewards, and evil may go unpunished
  9. Fate

 Format

  1. Exposition - Information vital to future unfolding events. Themes presented, conflicts introduced. Often containing information that happens before the actual story. "Romeo. don't waste your love on someone who doesn't value it,"
  2. Rising Action - The main conflict is introduced and incidents occur that set the wheels into motion. A series of events which leads to the climax, and mine was grand. It's now that the hero suffers from their fatal flaws and makes errors in judgement. "That booty is as endless as the sea, but my love as deep. The more I give her, the more I have... Both seem infinite"
  3. Climax - turning point that changes the protagonists  fate. The consequence of the events that occurred during the rising action. After the climax, the protagonist is more controlled BY their actions, than IN control of their actions. "These violent delights have violent ends. Thus with a kiss, I die"
  4. Falling Action - A conflict between the tragic hero and an avenging hero unfolds, which results in victory or defeat of the tragic hero. The falling action contains moments of suspense, where it is perceived the hero might escape their fate.  "Do not swear by the moon, Romeo, for she changes faces constantly. Your love will also change,"
  5. Denouement - the roller coaster levels out. Normality is restored and the conflicts resolved . "For never was a story fraught with so much woe, as that of Juliet and her quirky lover, Romeo"

It's not chocolate chip cookies

4 regular-sized Mars bars

1/2 cup butter

2 cups Rice Krispies

1 cup milk chocolate chips

Melt butter and mars bars over med/low heat until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the Krispies. Press into a greased 8X8. Melt Chocolate chips. I'm not going to tell you how, you got it handled from here. Cool that sucker down and try not to eat in one sitting. Smile!

Thanks!
